PwC operates in 152 countries with 328,000 people across the world. In response to the fact that sadly one in two people will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, in March last year the organisation signed the Working With Cancer pledge, which was launched at Davos in 2023.

“In discussion with leaders a business case was developed to support our people going through cancer treatment,” says Laura, who worked on the organisation’s cancer support programme after listening carefully to colleagues.

“For many people who have been diagnosed with cancer, staying in and returning to work is central to helping them regain a sense of control, keep their sense of identity and is an important part of their recovery process.”

The #WorkingWithCancer pledge aims to abolish the stigma and insecurity that exist for people with cancer in the workplace.

According to the organisation 50 per cent of employees consider it difficult (or are afraid) to reveal their cancer to their employers.
